Application Guidelines

The following documents should be sent to info{at}bordeneuveretreat.com. This page pertains uniquely to the MB Davis Nature Writing Residency – if you want to apply for a standard Bordeneuve retreat, please click here.

The application deadline is Monday, March 31, 2014 at midnight, UTC+1 (we are 6 hours ahead of the US East Coast/1 hour ahead of Greenwich time)

 

  1. Please fill out the PDF Application Form.
  2. A Biographical/Personal Statement (.pdf or .doc – ONE PAGE maximum)– in your own words, please describe your trajectory, experience and inspiration as a writer and thinker. Why is writing about nature important to you and how did you come to choose the topic of your proposal?  How would a residency at Bordeneuve benefit your work? We would like to know you through your own voice. Applications with a resumé or CV will be rejected.
  3. Writing Proposal (.pdf or .doc – ONE PAGE maximum)– Please provide a detailed summary of the project that you would work on at Bordeneuve including:
    • Working Title
    • Intended publication form (book, magazine article, essay)
    • A summary of the planned work
    • A summary of the work in progress (if any)
    • How would you use the research grant to further your project?
    • Any other funding, grants or publishers that are supporting this work.
    • Projected timeline (of the entire project, including the residency)
    • Please explain explicitly how this work will deepen our understanding of the world around us.
  1. Writing Sample (.pdf or .doc) – an excerpt of a previously published work. This work should have been published within the last 3 years (2011 and forward). Blog posts, poetry, fiction and screenplays are not eligible and will not be reviewed. Journalism (including on-line magazines), essays, and literary non-fiction are eligible. The work should be of prose non-fiction. Max 50 pages.
  2. A 20€ application fee.



The recipient of the 2014 Mary Byrd Davis Residency is asked to agree to the following points:

    • The fund recipient will be asked for a detailed record of how funds are used to further their work. Receipts are required to receive the travel stipend.

    • The fund recipient is asked to send a photo and brief statement upon acceptance for publicity use.

    • The fund recipient is asked, although not required, to provide a brief excerpt of their work while at Bordeneuve for publication on the Bordeneuve Retreat website.

    • The fund recipient is asked to acknowledge Bordeneuve Retreat and the Davis Family in any publication. Language will be provided.

Please be sure to include all elements of your application. Incomplete and/or late applications will not be reviewed. You will receive a confirmation email ONLY when your complete application has been received.
